In light of me posting an epic Master WIPs just a few minutes ago, this meme seems appropriate:
THE FANFICTION LOVE MEME

Normally I f-lock my WIP update postings but this might be of interest to readers who anonymously stop by??? (feel free to say hello!)
( Resurrecting older FFXII WIPs: Blindness, Scars, & The Death of Lady Bunansa ...plus ongoing work on My Brother the Traitor and Invisible Sun )
.
I feel so much more organized now. ^^
EDIT: Just made a writing schedule for posting the completed versions of Scars, Death of the Lady Bunansa, Discipline, plus revised Chapter 1 of Blindness and new Chapter 2 of Blindness all before the end of THIS MONTH. At that point, I'll feel caught up. It is so wrong that I feel behind on a hobby...

Plot issues resolved: Basch+Noah's father now has a very important, mostly off-screen role. Socio-economic/Political issues make catalyze my long-hinted at Basch/OC/Noah drama (really, Basch/OC, SameOC/Noah) have been nailed down.
Count down to one month of mad writing: 60 hours 20 minutes away (assuming I'm home at midnight on the 1st of November. currently unlikely).
Plot issue that wants to resolve within the next 60 hours: Step-by-step realities vs misinformation in the Archadian overthrow of Landis.
Me acknowledging reality: Rather than plot more in the next 60 hours, just use the mad month of mad writing in November to work through the twisty mess of Archadia's overthrow of Landis, which will happen anyway no matter how much I pre-plot.
Current concern: My internal editor called in this morning while browsing a bookstore in an airport. Her flight was rerouted due to freak snow storms. "Not sure if I can make it to the Bahamas," she said. "So, try Tahiti instead!" I yelled into the phone.
When I write in uber-fast bursts under strict time limits, my style ranges from okay to sucks balls. Must keep reminding myself that November is for finding this long on-hold story, not for exercising my stylistic writing. ...editing in Dec/Jan will be a bitch...

Recent decisions: 1. Handle the suspense aspect in current 1st person memoir narrative by including alternate POVs via documents that Gabranth collects later in his life once working for the 9th. 2. Mist fountains.

Timed pre-writing (an interview with a character about Ivalician mist/magick mechanics) resulted in 1760 words in 60 minutes when fueled by coffee, chocolate cake, and generic late afternoon cafe atmospherics. 'Tis good. 1760 words per hour of off the cuff writing is happiness. (grumbles at cafe's Internet going down...)

I'm looking for brain-food in the form of prompts to help me about Invisible Sun/Surveyors of the Past headcanon. You supply prompts, I'll write something that fits in a comment or two.
( Calling for prompts )
Prompt call is ongoing until I feel prompted out. :D

Other than the half dozen drabbles I posted on ff_fortnightly one week ago, I really *have* been writing fanfic over the past 4+ months but it just isn't obvious. :)
Mostly, I've gone back to planning and plotting epic fic and taking stock of projects I've started over the past year but haven't yet had time to continue. Over the past week I started organizing all of my writing "to do" lists.
So, here are a few observations on different approaches I've used in 2009 while plotting and planning.
( My Story Brain Prefers to Localize a Reasonably Small Idea... and develop it into a novelette (7500-17500 words) or let it grow into a novella (17500-50000 words) )
( Organically growing drabbles into a novella (feels like a win) )
( The Great Story Unifier Meets Linear Decomposition into Novelette/Novella-sized Chunks (takes forever to bake but also feels like a potential win) )
( Rolling a Story Forward Using 100 Prompts (and get tangled in the skein of yarn) )
( Upcoming Experiment: Writing like Playing Jazz )
( From Shared Hallucination To Non-linear List of Story Episodes )
Quick Summary of All That Crap Above
1. Evidence on my harddrive says that my brain likes to think in story lengths that run 12,000 to 25,000 words BUT my brain also likes to link or weave two or more of these stories into much larger epics.
2. It is a very good thing that I am fandom monogamous because one canon has spawned way too much fic. Plot bunnies run wild on their own with no prompting at all. My stories feed each other. While it means I am sometimes slow to produce finished fiction, I don't think this is a bad thing at all.
3. Seeding ideas by writing vaguely connected drabbles and double drabbles seems to work well for me.
4. I live and die by the outline. ...And I can bang out a 8000 word outline in one sitting.
5. My stories want to bake very slowly. Outline fast and then let the outline sit and bake. Draft parts of it and then let the draft sit and bake some more. My stories are in no hurry to be written. While one bakes, it spawns more ideas and others grow.
6. Prompts interfere with my story brain. This isn't new news but now I've touched the fire enough times now to assure myself that it burns. ;)

A Ninety-nine Year Lease, Penelo, Noah, Vaan, Filo. Rozarria, 727 O.V. 200 words. G. ( No words needed to be exchanged. )
Takes place in my "Invisible Sun"/"Surveyors" Ivalice (mildly AU post-game). Comes a few years after Ignoring the Truth but before Transfer of Energy.
...
My summer has been insanely busy. Although I've been silent in fandom, I've been doing a plot of plotting and planning for my various epic-length fic commitments. Hopefully something longer than drabbles will get posted sort of soon?
